Day 220: No Sun Fun Run, Puyallup, WA

We live in Washington…we should be used to the rain by now, right?

Well, the No Sun Fun Run is a rain or shine event! Taking place this Saturday, January 28th… Check-in and day of event (registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Heritage Recreation Center in South Hill Puyallup).

The run is non-competitive and welcomes all ages and abilities. Make sure to come dressed warm and bring your enthusiasm for one of the first 5K’s (and 1K’s) of the year. Remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes!

1 Mile Course:
Starting at Heritage Recreation Center, the course will run two times around the outside of the ball fields and will finish inside the sports complex between fields 1 and 4.

5K Course:
Beautifully forested 5K course on the Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail are very flat and stroller friendly! Starting at Heritage Recreation Center, the course runs around the baseball fields then heads south and takes a large counter-clockwise loop around South Hill Park and forested wetlands. Then progresses back toward Heritage Recreation Center lower soccer fields, north along 94th Avenue, then west through the lower parking lot (next to Zeiger Elementary) and ends in between fields 2 and 3 inside the sports complex.

Day 219: 16th Annual Fantasy Lights, Spanaway, WA

Pierce County Parks and Recreation is pleased to present the 16th annual ‘Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park’ the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest, featuring nearly 300 elaborate displays and thousands of sparkling lights. The beautiful two-mile drive along Spanaway Lake has become a memorable lakeside tradition for the entire family.

Visitors of all ages will be treated to the magical world of animation and imagination where bears fly kites, snowboys kick field goals, Santa snowboards down a slope, frogs jump in and out of a tree, and reindeer leap over your car. You will also marvel at several new attractions this year including the gingerbread playground, space aliens, and the holiday light tunnel.

As you drive, dial your car radio to FM 93.7 to listen to a selection of special holiday music performed by a local high school to add to the festive atmosphere of the park.

Hours of Operation: November 24th – January 1st

  • Fantasy Lights will operate every night including Christmas and New Year’s Eve, from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm.

Admission: Admission is charged per vehicle at the gate:

  • $13 per vehicle
  • $28 per mini-bus / (16-24 passenger capacity)
  • $45 for each bus / (25+ passenger capacity)

Discount Tickets: Visit one of the participating locations to purchase discount tickets for $10 each. Tickets are available while supplies last.

Day 216: Fantasy Lights Walk, Pierce County, WA

Kick off your holiday season with the Fantasy Lights WALK Sneak Preview this Sunday (20th) from 5:00p – 7:00p at Spanaway Park.

Details:

Fantasy Lights Walk takes you through 2.5 miles of animated displays at Spanaway Park. Walkers of all ages and abilities (including wheelchairs and strollers) are invited to take a sneak preview walk through Fantasy Lights this one night only.

Remember Sunday, November 20, 2011 is your only chance to walk through Fantasy Lights.

Cost:

  • $4 per person
  • $12 per family of four
  • Children ages 3 and under are free.

Check in:

Start and finish the 2.5 miles at Sprinker Recreation Center. Walkers may start any time between 5:00-7:00 p.m. after checking in.

Walkers should park and meet in Sprinker’s parking lot, located at 14824 South ‘C’ Street in Spanaway, then proceed as directed into Spanaway Park.

Walk Policies:

  • Walk only with strollers, wagons or wheelchairs.
  • No scooters, in-line skates, skateboards, or bikes.
  • Please NO dogs, except service dogs. Please have service dogs clearly marked to prevent confusion by other walkers and volunteer staff.
  • Bring a flashlight and wear visible clothing.
  • The event goes on rain or shine. Dress for the weather. No refunds due to inclement weather.
  • Bring your camera for a memorable holiday picture.
  • No vendors are allowed without written approval from the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department.

Day 215: Puyallup Emergency Preparedness Fair, Puyallup, WA

Is your family prepared for a natural disaster? What about a family emergency? Well, if your not sure then come to the Puyallup Fair and Events Center this Saturday 11/05 from 9:00am – 3:00pm for this FREE event.

There is going to be a ton of great, useful information about preparing you and your family for the worst.

Plus, they are giving away free bike helmets (children under 13)! You cant beat that…this is also a great opportunity to teach your kids about safety.

Day 213: Saturday Films: Inside Job, Puyallup, WA

Come down to the Puyallup Public Library for this Saturday’s Film at 2:00 pm in the South meeting room. Watch a controversial but informative documentary about the global economic crisis that began in 2007/2008.

Day 212: Woof Woof Walk, Spanaway, WA

Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume and enjoy a beautiful walk at Pierce County Parks and Recreation’s Woof Woof Walk on Saturday, October 22 from 9:00a – 1:00p at Spanaway Park.

Also, join the Pierce County K-9 unit for either the 1.5 mile or 3 mile route. Both routes are on paved trails that provide a flat, easy walk suitable for families and people of all abilities.

  • Prizes will be awarded in the canine costume contest.

Plus registered participants will be entered into the ‘ruffle drawing.’

Schedule:

  • 9:00 – 10:00a: Participants and their dogs will meet in the first parking lot of Spanaway Park to check-in and/or register. Please enter the costume contest during check-in/registration.
  • 10:30a – 1:00p: The Walk will begin and end on the trail at the entrance to Spanaway Park.

Pre-Registration (must be received by October 14, 2011):

  • $15.00 per dog
  • $5.00 for a second dog.
  • T-shirts are an additional $9.00 each.

Entertainment & Pictures:

Food & Blanket Donation:

In addition to the Walk, they will be accepting food and blanket donations for the local shelters. Those donating will receive an additional ‘ruffle ticket’ to enter the drawing.

Rules of Participation:

  • Dogs should be current in vaccinations.
  • No dogs under six months of age.
  • No female dogs in heat.
  • No aggressive dogs.
  • No more than two dogs per registration/participant.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older).
  • Keep your dog(s) on a 7-foot or shorter leash at all times.
  • Clean up after your dog(s). (Bags will be provided)
  • Bring your dog(s) only if he or she is well socialized.
  • Walk the course only if you and your pet are in adequate physical condition.
  • Water will be provided for both dogs and people along the course.

The Puyallup Art & Wine Walk is an annual event sponsored by the Puyallup Main Street Association. The Puyallup Art and Wine Walk will be taking place this Saturday, October 1 from 3:00-7:00 pm.

Throughout downtown Puyallup, participating downtown businesses will host wine tastings and exhibits of local artists. Don’t miss out on this premier event in downtown Puyallup. Wines from Washington with an emphasis on the Walla Walla region will be served at twenty-two wine host sites.

For the beer lover, The Station U-Brew is serving up The Conductor, a peach/rhubarb beer specially brewed for this event and Breakman Jack amber.

Day 209: Puyallup Fair – Day 3, Puyallup, WA

There are only 6 days left of the Puyallup Fair, have you gone yet?

The Puyallup Fair is a great place for families to come and have a great time but for the Kids…there’s a special place that they will really love!

Sillyville

In Sillyville you will find:

  • Vintage Train & Station – The C.P. Huntington Train travels on a 24-inch track gauge and is housed in a new 4,000 square foot station with an early 1900s feel. It reaches speeds of 12 mph with seven seats per car – two adults and one child per seat, or four children per seat.

Day 203: Doubleheader Outdoor Cinema Series, Puyallup, WA

We have another doubleheader weekend for the Outdoor Cinema Series! One movie will be playing at Foursquare Church (Silver Creek – South Hill) TONIGHT (08/26) from 7:00p – 10:00p and the other is playing at Bradley Lake Park tomorrow (08/27) and will begin at dusk.

Bring your blanket, chairs and get set to have some great outdoor fun!

Also, concessions will be sold.
