Day 174: Families In Motion Puyallup Riverwalk Trail, Puyallup, WA

This Saturday (4/30) is the 2nd annual Families in Motion event taking place on the Puyallup Riverwalk Trail from 10:00a – 2:00p.

Families are invited to participate in different activities that will all take place on the trail. The starting location is next to the Skateboard Park in downtown Puyallup (4th St. N.W. next to the Goodwill Building across from the car lots on river road).

The event has plenty of food vendors, a treasure hunt for kids (with prizes), a 3.6K fun run with Senator Jim Kastama, a bicycle obstacle course, dog events, a skateboard competition and music.

This is going to be a fun event that you wont want to miss!

Come out and enjoy the trails and have some fun with your family this weekend!

Day 173: 2011 Puyallup Clean Sweep, Puyallup, WA

2011 Puyallup Clean Sweep

It’s time for a little spring cleaning.

If your like me (and my wife), you have probably begun to clean out the garage, tidy up the house and do a little deep cleaning to prepare for Spring/Summer.

We’ll lets show our community some love too and give it a Clean Sweep this Saturday 4/23 from 9:00a – 1:00p!

Volunteers can meet at the Puyallup Main Street Association office, 107 North Meridian by 8:45 to receive their cleaning assignment. Puyallup Main Street Association will be providing brooms, pressure washers, and garbage sacks. All volunteers should be dressed in work clothes, shoes and bring gloves if you have them.

Also, they’ll have a pizza party afterwards for all who volunteer!

Day 172: 2011 Puyallup Farmers Market, Puyallup, WA

This last weekend kicked off the 2011 Puyallup Farmers Market Season!

Puyallup hosts the premier farmers market in Pierce County and is located at Pioneer Park and the Pioneer Park Pavilion in downtown Puyallup.

Schedule:

  • Saturdays 9:00 to 2:00 April 16th — October 15th
  • Sundays 9:00 to 2:00 May 1st — September 4th

There is so much to see at the farmers market in Puyallup. From flowers, to art, to fruits and vegitables and even sweets and candy. You can see (and purchase) it all at the farmers markets.

Plus, its good to support our local businesses and farmers!

Day 171: The Spring Fair 2011, Puyallup, WA

It’s that time of year again…The Puyallup Spring Fair is happening April 14 – 17 (4 days only!).

There is TONS of FREE things to do at the fair. Take your pick and have a great time…

Free Entertainment

Dock Dogs: This new sport challenges dogs to dash down a specially built 40-foot canine runway and jump headlong into a large portable swimming pool filled with 27,000 gallons of water. The longest distance jump wins! Enjoy the spectacular abilities of these amazing dogs.

Swifty Swine Racing Pigs: Stop by and watch piglets race around a track for the coveted prize of a peanut butter cup at the finish line.

Timberworks Lumberjack Show: Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. No, it’s not Superman – these “men of steel” are lumberjacks in the Timberworks Lumberjack Show. The NEW show includes century-old skills like axe throwing, chopping, log rolling, cross cut sawing, hot sawing and chainsaw carving. To pass idle time in logging camps, lumberjacks would challenge each other in a head-to-head competition.

Danny Vernon Illusion of Elvis: With the voice, look, and passion of the twentieth century icon, Danny Vernon recaptures Elvis Presley’s appeal! This show is sure to be fun entertainment for the whole family!

Gothard Sisters: A show with this talented trio of sisters includes fast fiddle numbers, singing ballads, and champion Irish step dancing incorporated into exciting numbers featuring country, Irish, flamenco, and rock influences, as well as stories, educational tidbits, and a good time for audiences of all ages.

Sandra Lee: Join Sandra Lee for a cooking demonstration on Sat, April 16 at 2 pm. FREE seating will be offered to the first 300 people that bring a generous, non-perishable food donation or monetary contribution to benefit local food banks. Bring donation to the Americraft ShowPlex donation station near the Garden Stage starting at 10 am on Sat, April 16. Seats are limited, so bring your donation early and you’ll be given a bracelet guaranteeing your seat for the show!

Dora The Explorer: Come explore Fiesta Mexicana and meet Dora! Here’s your chance to hug your favorite adventurer and her friend Boots.

Rock On! Christian Musicfest: Churches from around the region will bring their amazing bands to perform for a great night of music on the Great American Stage.

Puyallup Spring Fair Choir & Ensemble Festival: This festival features some of the region’s most accomplished choral and ensemble groups including the Total Experience Gospel Choir with Tracie Davis as the very special Mistress of Ceremonies. Don’t miss this memorable event taking place at the Showplace Stage on Saturday, April 16, 10 am – 5 pm.

Let’s Pretend Pirate: Cute pirates, beautiful mermaids, mischievous monkeys, an overly chatty parrot, and the evil Captain Green Beard all come together for a grand adventure in search of – what else? TREASURE! Little ones will love being part of this imaginative adventure. Kids are are selected from the audience to create the show!

Ag Magic Show: Go back to the agricultural roots of the Puyallup Valley! Whether you’re a Kid or a parent, you can help make the magic happen AND test your own agricultural knowledge.

Dancing Horses: Enjoy the beautiful and elegant performances of the dancing horses and the musical entertainment.

Red Hatters: Enjoy fun and activities just for Red Hatters. New this year is the Great Red Hat Houdini Caper. Can you make a bunny disappear? And back for the 4th year is the hat contest – with a “Down on the Farm” theme! Bring your decorated hat to the Garden Stage.

Face Painting: Kids 12 & under can get their face painted for FREE! Face painting is located indoors in KidZone!

Day 170: Daffodil Parade 2011, Puyallup, WA

Don’t forget, tomorrow Saturday, April 9th 2011 is the 78th Annual Daffodil Festival Grand Floral Street Parade. The parade will be taking place throughout Downtown Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting! (see below for start times in your city)

This years parade will be hosted by Emerald Queen Hotel & Casinos.

Parade Start Times:

  • Tacoma – 10:15 am
  • Puyallup – 12:45 pm
  • Sumner – 2:30 pm
  • Orting – 5:00 pm

The Theme for the 2011 Parade is: “Spirit of Adventure”

The Daffodil Parade is one of the highlights every year in Puyallup and other surrounding cities. The parade travels through the four cities of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting and consists of approximately 40 float entries and over 80 other entries, including bands, marching and mounted units. The floats are decorated with fresh-cut Daffodils, numbering in the thousands. The Daffodil Festival will be celebrating it’s 78th year during the 2011 festival season!
