Day 82: 3-D Drawing with Kim Zeiger, Puyallup, WA

Plop right into this fishbowl drawing! Join art teacher extraordinaire Kim Zeiger at the Puyallup Library this Friday from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm as she teaches children (1st grade and up) how to draw a 3-D fishbowl with fish, plants, and décor.

Yes, something fishy’s going on and we want you to join the fun! Drawing materials and decorations will be provided.

No registration required for this FREE art program. This program is open to all art abilities.

Day 81: Puyallup Public Library Presents: Waves of Fear? Naaah!, Puyallup, WA

Some creatures can give you the chills, but you don’t have to fear them! Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium will visit the Puyallup Public Library on June 30th, bringing creatures that may inspire “waves of fear.”

Learn about creatures like the Chilean rose-haired tarantula, the corn snake, and the giant African millipede and discover why you don’t have to be afraid. You’ll also learn how they use sound waves to survive, while getting the opportunity to talk to the zoo staff.

This event is part of the Teen Summer Reading Program at the Puyallup Public Library. Teens can learn about creepy creatures, take a painting workshop, act like a rock star, or catch a movie. And, of course, there are lots of things to read! This summer, teens can win prizes, including books and gift cards, by reading and attending programs. Teen Summer Reading runs from June 18th to August 21st, with registration starting June 1st.

Day 80: Chalk the Walk in front of the Library, Puyallup, WA

Ready, set, draw!… on the sidewalk in front of the Puyallup Downtown Library this Saturday (6/26 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm)!

Kids of all ages and all artistic abilities are invited to “Chalk the Walk” during this special art event.

There will be several artists available to inspire and help budding artists create sidewalk masterpieces.

This FREE community art program is sponsored by Valley Arts United, Puyallup Main Street Association Farmer’s Market, Kiwanis Club of Puyallup, and the Puyallup Public Library.

Many colors of chalk will be provided with plenty of sidewalk to fill-in with artsy designs.

Rain or shine, don’t miss this chance to show off!

Day 79: Comfort Foods Cafe, Puyallup, WA

The Comfort Foods Cafe is fairly new to Puyallup. They are located on 210 West Pioneer in downtown Puyallup (next to Forza and the downtown Pioneer Park), it was set in motion with three main objectives in mind:

  • First to serve wholesome and flavorful food in a heartwarming atmosphere.
  • Second to facilitate a shift of focus and heighten awareness of local and world needs.
  • Third to impact the lives of local foster youth with God’s comfort and assist them in offering that same comfort to international orphans.

That’s what LOVE INTERNATIONAL is all about. The profits from COMFORT FOOD will fund the outreach efforts of LOVE INTERNATIONAL.

Day 78: Rock @ the Library: Rock Band Competition, Puyallup, WA

Kick off the summer by making waves of sound with a Rock Band Competition at the Puyallup Public Library this Wednesday (6/23) from 3:00 – 5:00.

Players can compete for Best Buy gift cards – they’ll be playing Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360. For those who want to play for fun, they’ve set up Beatles Rock Band for the Wii. Equipment and snacks will be provided. Pre-registration is recommended.

Day 76: Fan Fancy, Puyallup, WA

Cool off at the Puyallup Public Library! Come decorate a fan tomorrow (Friday 6/18) and be refreshed for Meeker Days. Paper fans and playful decorations will be provided for your artistic pleasure while the library is open, 10 am through 5 pm. No registration required for this FREE event.

Part of the 2010 Summer Reading program at the Puyallup Public Library, this “Fan Fancy” event encourages children between the ages of 0 and 12 years old to come down to the Library for books and fun in an effort to maintain their reading skills.

Every child who reads (or is read to) 10 hours or more this summer will get a free book and a ticket to Northwest Trek/Pt. Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and other goodies. Make a Splash – READ! summer reading program starts June 15 and ends August 15. Registration begins June 1. The library welcomes children of all abilities.

Day 75: Meeker Days, Puyallup, WA

Come down to historic downtown Puyallup (located at Pioneer Park Pavilion – 330 S Meridian Puyallup) for the 71st Annual Meeker Days Festival taking place this Friday June 18th – Sunday June 20th from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The largest street festival in Pierce County encompasses over 15 city blocks and features live entertainment on three stages; two food courts; arts & crafts vendors; commercial vendors; inflatable rides for kids; car shows featuring classic Buicks and Pontiacs plus a whole lot more!
