Day 162: Puyallup Library Annual Garden Book Sale, Puyallup, WA

Are you ready for Spring and Summer? For you gardeners out there (my wife included) its time to start planning for your garden.

The Annual Garden Book Sale will begin on Monday, March 14th at 10:00a.

You’ll find books to please every kind of gardener!

The sale will continue until supplies are gone, so make sure to come early and check out what they have!

Day 161: Teen Tech Week: Steampunk Jewelry, Puyallup, WA

March 6 – 12 is Teen Tech Week and what better way to celebrate all the technology in the library by creating steampunk jewelry, taking place tomorrow March 9th from 3:00p – 5:00p.

What’s steampunk, you ask? Well, it’s a type of science fiction that combines futuristic technology with history (click here for more details).

The workshop will provide youths with a chance to make a unique piece of jewelry or decoration, using a variety of bits and parts. The Library will supply the bits & pieces, as well as equipment. No sign-up required and this program is FREE!

While you work, they will be playing The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (PG), an account of the Baron’s fantastical travels with a band of misfits.

Day 160: The Foothills Dash, Orting, WA

Must pre-register by today (March 7th) to receive discounted registration fee!

The Foothills Dash (Saturday, March 19th) is a 5K and 10K Fun Run in Orting (close to Puyallup :)) to benefit recreation programs for youths.

This fun run/walk takes place on The Foothills Trail and is open to people of all ages and ability levels.

The course starts and finishes at the Orting Eagle Lodge (see map below).

The Foothills Trail is paved and provides flat areas and easy slopes.


  • Check in begins at 8:00 a.m (Saturday March 19th). Pick up your race number and shirt (if purchased) starting at 8:00 AM at Orting Eagles Lodge. The race starts at 9:00 a.m.

Registration: Pre-register by March 7 at the Pierce County Parks administrative office in the Lakewood Community Center.

  • Forms must be received by March 7 to be eligible for the $15.00 pre-registration fee. All forms received after March 7 will be charged the $20.00 fee.
  • T-shirts are available to purchase the day of event while supplies last.


  • $15 – Pre-registered by March 7
  • $10 – Youth 12 & Under
  • $20 – Day of event

They also have a 1-mile fun run for youth 12 and under!

  • Youths need to complete registration form and check in prior to race time. The cost is $5.00 per youth.
  • T-shirts are not included. No run time will be kept for this 1 mile run. A separate prize drawing will be held for the 1-mile runners.
